Included with every domain

No add-on fees for the basics you need to run a website and email.

Free DNS management

Add A, CNAME, MX and TXT records from your client area, including records for Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.

Nameserver control

Use Route Africa hosting or point the domain to any provider you like. You stay in charge of where it resolves.

Transfer lock and auth codes

Lock the domain against unauthorised transfers and request its EPP code yourself when you need to move it.

DNSSEC where supported

Sign the zone on extensions whose registry supports DNSSEC, which protects visitors from forged DNS answers.

Privacy where permitted

Hide personal contact details from public lookups on extensions whose registry policy allows it.

Renewal reminders

We email you ahead of expiry, so a lapsed card or changed phone number doesn't cost you the name.

DNSSEC, privacy and transfer rules are set by each registry. The pricing table marks which apply to each extension.

From search to live domain in three steps

Most generic domains activate within minutes of payment. Restricted African zones may ask for documents first.

  1. Search and pick

Check your name across global and African extensions and add the ones you want to the cart.

  2. Add hosting or email if you need it

Shared from CloudNest up include a free domain, so bundle them at checkout.

  3. Pay and manage

Pay by card, bank transfer or mobile money, then manage DNS and renewals from one client area.

Already own a domain elsewhere?

Move it to Route Africa and keep every domain, renewal and DNS record in one place. Your website and email keep running on the current DNS while the transfer completes.

  • Unlock the domain at your current registrar
  • Copy the auth (EPP) code they give you
  • Order the transfer here and approve the confirmation email
  • Most generic domains gain a year of registration when the transfer completes

Why register with an African registrar?

International registrars work well for .com. They get harder when you need a national African domain, a local currency or a payment method without a dollar card.

Domain registration questions

Which domain extension should I choose?

If most of your customers are in one country, register that country's commercial domain, such as .co.tz or .co.ke. Add .com or .africa if you sell across borders. Many businesses register both and point one to the other.

Why do you show the renewal price?

Some extensions are cheap for the first year and much more expensive afterwards. Showing both lets you compare the real cost of keeping a name, not just the cost of getting it.

Can I pay without an international card?

Yes. Alongside Visa, Mastercard and bank transfer, our country pages take local mobile money such as M-Pesa, MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, and gateways such as Paystack and PayFast.

How long does registration take?

Most generic domains such as .com and .africa activate within minutes of payment. Some African zones ask for company or institution documents first, which adds time for registry review.

Can I use my domain with another hosting company?

Yes. You control the nameservers and DNS records, so you can point the domain to any host or email provider.

What happens if I forget to renew?

We send reminders before expiry. After expiry, each registry has its own grace and recovery rules, so renew early if the name matters to your business.
